The Components of Brilliance

According to the GIA's research, brilliance in a diamond is the combination of three visual characteristics. A well-cut diamond will properly balance each of these elements while ensuring that the weight is in the right place and the diamond looks its size.

Brightness - The return of white light to the eye

Fire - The dispersion of light into the spectral colors

Scintillation - The flashes of light reflected from the crown

When cutting diamonds, Kwiat favors brightness. We believe that this results in the most brilliant and largest looking diamond possible. Other methods of diamond cutting - such as ideal cuts, hearts & arrows, or diamonds with an unusual number of facets - favor other elements and result in diamonds that, in our expert judgment, are not as brilliant.
